As Movin community continues to grow, it has come to our attention that a number of sellers on the platform are not as they appear in an attempt to take advantage of honest buyers. The team at Movin strives to keep the platform clean and weed out scammers to provide a safe environment for all users.
There is no buyer protection as Movin is community run
Read the description clearly and ask any questions to the seller before committing
Communicate message seller via ‘Chat’ function to answer questions
Sellers are independent entities and are not registered shops, meaning they are not obligated to provide receipts, refunds and warranties once a transaction has been completed
Meet in person. Possibly the most important point here. Don’t be lazy, make an effort to meet the seller and see the goods physically. Doing this will ensure that both parties get what they want and are in mutual agreement.
Test/check goods, especially electronics for any damage and to see if it works well
Avoid payments without seeing the goods.
Ask for seller ID and phone number especially if a large purchase must be made without physically seeing the product. Check that the phone number works.
Flag posts if product does not match the description
Flag post If product is in breach of Movin rules
Offer something too good to be true
They will avoid meeting in person
They will avoid contact details
They are very insistent you to pay upfront or at least half
Once they receive money, scammers will show photos of box and with receipt, but boxes do not contain paid for goods.
Scammers will stop replying to messages and eventually block users.
Flagging any goods will alert Movin staff to anything that is in violation of Movin rules
